The Role
The Material Planning group in Supply Chain is responsible for the
reliable and efficient flow of all production materials to Tesla’s factories
and Service locations. The returnable packaging team is managing packaging
assets that are used to move parts between suppliers and Tesla factories. As
Technical Project Manager, you will have end-to-end responsibility for returnable
packaging operations. You will develop business cases to justify Capex investments,
launch new packaging programs, and ensure operational success of the packaging
fleet. This is a strategic supply chain role, interacting with suppliers,
Finance, Material Planning, Logistics, Global Supply Management, Packaging
Engineering, and Production Control in order to ensure returnables packaging
programs are running at best efficiency for packaging cost optimization.
Flexibility and adaptability are key attributes needed for success in
this role. Candidate should have strong analytical, project management and
leadership skills to handle a variety of activities and complexities spanning
the organization. Candidates should be willing to work at both a very detailed
and strategic level.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Supply
Chain/logistics processes and related IT solutions.
Responsibilities
- Review Tesla’s returnable packaging requirements for existing and new
programs - Identify investment opportunities to optimize packaging cost
- Develop business cases and ROI models for packaging related investments
and present to finance and leadership for approval - Ensure optimal flow of returnable packaging containers through the
supply chain to eliminate back-up expendable packaging cost - Create, improve and deploy returnables packaging operation process
- Identify common packaging supply chain failure modes, determine
appropriate response and drive resolution in collaboration with internal teams
and external suppliers - Support resolution of escalated operations issues
- Work with cross-functional stakeholders such as sourcing and packaging
engineering teams to define project priorities - Support Tesla’s returnable packaging track and trace projects
Requirements
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in Industrial engineering, supply chain or
related field - At least 3 – 5 years of professional work experience in supply chain,
manufacturing or other process critical operations in a fast paced environment - Analytics savvy with strong proficiency in Excel and knowledge of SQL,
Tableau and or other analytics tools - Ability to effectively communicate and work with people from all levels
of the organization both at Tesla as well as at suppliers. Should be
comfortable handling difficult conversations - Ability to evaluate and analyze data to enable operational
decision-making or present clear recommendations to leadership - Capability to prioritize activities to have the largest operational impact
- Lateral thinker with exceptional judgment – ability to develop process
and drive schedules and also comfortable quickly changing direction when that
is the best course of action. - Passionate and relentless in following up on issues until a final
resolution achieved and sustained process improvements are deployed and
verified - Demonstrated experience creating and improving processing and delivering
results in an unstructured and fast-paced environment. Flexibility and adaptability are key. - Experience with automotive supply chains and processes a significant
plus.
