We are looking for a talented, experienced, and highly motivated individual to join Tesla in improving and streamlining quality control and production rate. This engineer will be the subject matter expert assigned to a program driving issues encompassing Paint, Body, and General Assembly. Our group’s mission is to work closely with Tesla’s Global Manufacturing and Design teams to deliver a best-in-class product by capacity enhancements and continuous quality improvements. This team acts as the bridge between the core design/ engineering teams (vehicle and powertrain) and factory operations/ manufacturing to ensure that the operational needs of the Fremont factory are met. Driving closure to issues limiting line rate, quality, and cost are key deliverables for this team. The team is intimately familiar with local standards and delivers new part design to the sustaining teams. Hands-on support on the shop floor is expected as the need arises in any of the following areas: Paint Shop, Body Shop, General Assembly, or Powertrain. Knowledge and experience of the complete project life cycle from scoping through to mass production is essential. Experience in automotive manufacturing processes is preferred in an operations, maintenance, or engineering capacity.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechatronics, or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.
3+ years of engineering experience.
Proficiency in CATIA V5 or similar 3D CAD software (Solidworks, ProE, Unigraphics, etc).
Understanding of GD&T, manufacturing JIG’s, as well as weld symbols.
Experience with rapid prototyping in small to medium volume production.
Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes, engineering materials, and fastening methods.
Familiarity with design and engineering of automotive systems such as: Closures, Front end’s, Body Structures, Plastics, and/or vehicle systems engineering experience.
