The Role
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Manufacturing Data Analytics Engineer with a passion for data analytics and hands on work for our cutting-edge high volume Tesla battery cell manufacturing line. This role will develop and implement data processing pipelines for complex new engineering problems, find correlations across processes, create online dashboards and do deep dives in a highly cross-functional environment, supporting both manufacturing engineering and design engineering teams at Tesla. In this role, you will work closely with many organizations both internal and external to Tesla to take new battery designs and battery metrology concepts from initial concept through full production.
The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced, and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join a highly motivated and capable team to make unbelieve things into reality.

Requirements

  • Either a MS with 2+ years relevant metrology or data science experience, or a Ph.D. in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Prior relevant work experience is a plus.
  • Strong expertise in work involving complex data acquisition, data analysis and visualization requiring one or more coding languages or statistical software packages.
  • Strong understanding of engineering and physics fundamentals and ability to apply them towards metrology gauges and manufacturing process development.
  • Strong understanding of applied physics, applied mathematics and statistics.
  • Proficient in advanced statistics, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data to a variety of audiences.
  • Proven problem solver – demonstrated experience of data driven root cause analysis
  • Shown expertise with metrology tools and understanding of fundamental working principles.
  • Shown expertise with query building for exporting data from databases (e.g. SQL, Flux,…).
  • Shown expertise with at least one statistical software package (e.g. JMP, Minitab,…)
  • Shown expertise with at least one programming language for data processing (e.g. Python, MATLAB)
  • Shown expertise in various forms of data visualization and related software (e.g. Python Seaborn, Python Plotly, MATLAB, Tableau,…)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to simplify complicated concepts for non-technical and cross-functional team members.
  • Familiar with Six Sigma and similar concepts
  • Manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing involving one or more of these areas is beneficial:
    • Battery quality control
    • Roll-to-Roll film processing and metrology
    • Battery manufacturing (li-ion or other chemistry)
