Launch Mechanical Design Engineer – HV Battery Module & Pack

Responsibilities

  • As a launch engineer in Tesla’s Battery Module Design Engineering Team, you will be responsible for the continued ramp, stabilization, optimization, and holistic sustaining of Battery & Module components & assemblies. You will be part of the global team that designs and delivers the High Voltage Batteries in all of Tesla’s vehicle and Energy Products. This is a hard-core team; this must excite you. This includes all structural, thermal, and electrical components required to make a large battery out of thousands of cells. Launch is more than simply achieving Start-of-Production; that’s just the beginning. It’s about the continuity afterwards and continually launching various improvement efforts. Our real impact is measured by the area under the curve, not the initial.

Requirements

  • Experience a plus but not mandatory; preferably 2-5 years in battery or automotive (high
  • volume)
  • Default-based in Palo Alto HQ; other locations possible to discuss
  • Strong Engineering fundamentals in heat transfer, fluids, mechanics, and basic electronics
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling. CATIA V5/V6 and 3DX experience a plus
  • Proficiency with statistics and data analysis. SPC/Black-Belt proficiency a plus but not
  • mandatory
  • Demonstrated hands-on abilities (e.g. machine shop skills, technical hobbies/projects, etc)
  • Preferred experience with various manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding,
  • metal stamping, thermoforming, welding/brazing, plating, PCBA/FPC, and bonding
  • Preferred experience in designing for high volume assembly, both manual and automated
  • Preferred experience defining test plans, designing test setups, and analyzing data
  • A detail oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills
  • Desire to own a lot and work hard – we have small teams and fast timelines
  • Experience with student Formula Vehicle, Solar Car, Formula Baja, etc. a plus.
