Laboratory Internship- Paint Shop (m/w/d) – Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg

The internship assignment
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated chemist Intern to set up and support the laboratory in the Paint Shop for our vehicle manufacturing plant Berlin. In your role you will be responsible for the planning, installation and implementation of the laboratory as well as their commissioning and execution of the experiments. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join in highly motivated and capable team.

Learning goals & Tasks
  • Daily laboratory analyzes and testing of the samples for the pre-treatment, ECoat and Topcoat processes regarding various physical and chemical properties
  • Maintain laboratory equipment in proper condition through calibration and control chart methods
  • Initiate the Job Safety Analyzes (JSA) for all laboratory tasks and observe/review the Job Safety Observations (JSO)
  • Timely recording of the results in the laboratory journal in English and German
  • Creation of reports / presentation of results with MS 365 Office Suite
  • Critical review of the calculations and results carried out and, if necessary, implementation of corrections
  • Daily coordination with the chemical suppliers on-site
  • Responsible for ordering and managing laboratory-related material.
  • Strive for continuous improvement in the lab
  • Keep the assigned laboratory work area for equipment, chemicals, reaction products/samples (both laboratory-made and customer-supplied) clean and tidy (ensure 5S)

  • Recently graduated from a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering (up to 6 months from graduation)
  • Basic knowledge of the paint shop would be an advantage or completed training as a chemical laboratory assistant with professional experience in the chemical industry
  • Very good command of spoken and written English. German is a big plus
  • Good understanding of MS 365 Office, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to write macros and knowledge of code creation would be beneficial
  • Beginner/intermediate Autocad skills is a plus
  • Independent way of working, setting priorities, adapting planning, if necessary, multi-tasking (e.g. syntheses and analyses)
  • Social skills, you enjoy working in cross-departmental teams
  • Demonstrate “the problem-solving mentality” with the ability to think on First Principles thinking
