We are seeking a multi-faceted Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for all aspects of identifying, analyzing, root causing, implementing countermeasures and reporting on issues affecting various vehicle systems like Exteriors, Interiors, Lights, Body, IP, etc.
The Field Quality Engineering team’s mission is to improve customer experience of Tesla products by eliminating field issues, in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams.
Engineers on the team are responsible for one or more vehicle systems for Model S/3/X/Y. This is a very hands-on individual contributor role with duties focused on failure analysis and root cause activities.
To be effective, the Field Quality Engineer will either need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of these components and systems and the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture or be a quick learning generalist with sufficiently relevant background. The Engineer will work with other Engineering teams to quickly mitigate and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve quality, reliability, and durability of the products.
A passion for Tesla’s mission, root causing and bug fixing are a must.
Track record of enjoying to “repair stuff”.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field required.
MS degree in Engineering is preferred.
Prior applicable experience desired; preferably in a hands-on role such as Failure Analysis/Quality/Service in an automotive environment.
For entry level candidates, coops or participation in student competitions such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Solar vehicle are desired.
The successful candidate for this position must have a broad technical background with the ability to work with engineering, manufacturing, service, and suppliers across a wide variety of issues as well es internationally.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Tesla and outside.
Exceptional problem solving and failure analysis skills and analytical thinking.
Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data.
Previous experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
