Factory Firmware Team, Validation Technician


The Factory Firmware Team (FFT) is seeking an Electrical
Mechanical team member to support the growing Validation Team in Fremont, CA.
Being at an intersection of R&D, integration, & manufacturing, FFT is
working on building out more toolsets requiring someone with electrical &
mechanical background ideally comfortable using CAD. We are looking for someone
that is hands-on, creative, organized, process oriented, and able to work
closely with cross-functional teams. In this role you will be working with
internal tools, perform car retrofits (working with new products), solder when
developing new tools, and attention to detail to keep our tools maintained.

The Factory Firmware Team operates as the eyes
and ears of the Firmware organization within the factory and often has last say
on the deployment of new firmware to manufacturing – providing valuable insight
and feedback to accelerate the development and launch of exciting new hardware
and software features. We take the role seriously to ensure our Tesla cars are
safe and of good software quality.


  • Design & build cable harness assemblies and
    test fixtures to support testing
  • Integrate various inputs based on schematics,
    wiring diagrams, test requirements, and engineering guidance into testable
  • Provide engineering support on product
    modifications and repairs such as printed circuit board soldering, vehicle
    harness re-arrangement, firmware and software install
  • Utilize various test resources (Oscilloscopes,
    various analyzers, multi-meters, testers, spectrum analyzer, etc.) to set up,
    run and monitor tests
  • Provide engineering support to develop and
    validate test setups
  • Maintain stock of supplies to support a lean and
    streamlined development environment in the Factory Firmware laboratory
  • Collaborate on budget planning for supplies in
    the FFT laboratory
  • Maintain and expand a clean, safe and organized
    working environment. Apply workplace organization concepts and methods, such as
    5S, to improve efficiency


  • Associate degree or work experience as
    technician for at least 2 years
  • Knowledge of vehicle in general, or electronic
    system integration
  • Familiar on using equipment like multimeters,
    oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers
  • Familiar with debugging failures and system
  • Basic understanding of electrical and electronic
    circuits and components
  • Excellent soldering and electronics fabrication
  • Mechanical design and fabrication skills. 3D
    printing is a plus
  • Familiar with network protocols is a plus: CAN,
    LIN, I2C, Ethernet, etc
  • Comfortable reading and creating mechanical drawings
    and schematics
  • Strong sense of quality and craft in work
  • Self-starter, results oriented, and ability to
