Responsibilities

  • Tesla is seeking a dynamic environmental professional to join the Environmental, Health and Safety Team (EHS). The role will support environmental compliance programs at Tesla’s cell manufacturing and seats manufacturing facilities in Fremont, CA. Reporting to the Environmental Affairs Manager, this role will be responsible for performing complex technical work in a wide range of environmental disciplines. He or she will support day-to-day operations while leading environmental compliance and risk management programs, waste reduction initiatives, and pollution prevention efforts across air, waste, water, chemical reporting, and hazardous material programs. He or she will also manage external environmental consultants, serve as the internal environmental technical subject matter expert, and advise and influence internal business partners in order to achieve environmental performance goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Environmental-related discipline; Master’s degree is a plus;
  • Professional certifications such as CHMM and/or QISP is a plus;
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience supporting multi-media environmental compliance programs in California;
  • Previous experience managing air permit compliance programs;
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment, where demands and priorities change rapidly;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, engineers, legal counsel, technical specialists, and management, cross functionally, in a multi-disciplinary, global environment;
  • Strong foundational knowledge of EHS laws (CAA, CWA, RCRA, CEQA, DOT, CFC, Cal-OSHA, etc.), regulations, and standards;
  • Strong understanding of sustainability and environmental topics and fundamentals including sustainable design, planning, policy, waste, greenhouse gases/energy, responsible material sourcing, water, land use change, biodiversity, and EHS certification systems;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills;
  • Previous experience preparing air emission, TRI, HMBP, hazardous waste, storm water, and/or wastewater discharge reports;
  • Experience managing regulatory/agency inspections;
  • Evidence of exceptional ability.
