Responsibilities

  • The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for driving, influencing, and achieving EHS excellence, regulatory compliance, and overall risk reduction. The position will oversee the Automotive Sales, Service & Delivery (SSD) and Energy Operations across the country.

    This position reports to the Sr. EHS Manager and will ensure world-class standards are met and sustained across Automotive SSD and Energy operations in this market. The role will interface with regional automotive SSD and Energy operations leadership, front-line operations staff, contracting partners, and other related teams within Tesla and will drive and support continuous improvement throughout Tesla’s design and deployment operations.

    This position is based in Tokyo, Japan and will require travel within the region, given the geographical reach of the business.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of progressive experience in EHS in the high-tech industry or similar environment. Prior experience working with electric vehicles, charging products or infrastructure, vehicle delivery or service operations preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies, Occupational Health and Safety, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or similar. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Fluency in Japanese and English required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also required. Must be able to communicate and influence through all levels of the organization and with multinational personnel from various cultures and backgrounds. Business English.
  • Proficiency within the Microsoft suite, including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Expertise and practical experience in construction management and safety, working at heights and electrical safety, emergency (including COVID) management, and environmental risks, combined with knowledge of local, provincial, and national regulatory agencies and requirements.
  • The candidate must have a demonstrated track record of successfully executing complex, multidisciplinary projects and assignments and assuming accountability for results, including experience in training and educating company employees in EHS initiatives.
  • Experience in direct external or third-party contractor management, from design and construction to operational phases.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, great attention to detail, problem-solving skills, the ability to multi-task, prioritise, and work in a highly fast-paced environment, and a demonstrated ability to perform duties independently and remotely with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate will also be a team player who can be proactive, creative, and innovative in approaching challenges.
