Claims Analyst

The claims process is critical to the insurance business and this exciting role will play a pivotal role in ensuring its success by delivering key insights and driving change. This position can sit in Austin, Texas, or in Fremont, California.


Required skills & experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in insurance and analytics, particularly in claims
  • Graduate degree in quantitative field (statistics, math, economics, financial engineering, and/or physics)
  • Strong analytical and modeling skills
  • Experience developing, interpreting, implementing, and monitoring statistical, predictive and inferential models (e.g. GLMs, GAMs, logistic regression, time-series, etc.)
  • Relevant, applied experience with analytics / data science / business intelligence tools
    • Statistical coding (e.g. Python, R, Jupyter Notebooks)
    • Data extraction and engineering (e.g. SQL)
    • Visualization and dashboarding (e.g. Tableau)
  • Ability to self-start and self-direct work in an unstructured environment, with the ability to pivot direction quickly
  • Excellent problem-framing, problem-solving and project management skills, working from first principles
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Preferred skills & experience

  • Relevant actuarial training and/or experience, including claims reserving
  • Experience working with unstructured data, including text, photos, and videos
  • Experience working with vehicle telematics data
  • Experience with developing, interpreting, implementing, and monitoring machine learning models
  • Relevant experience with big data tools (e.g. Spark), distributed computing, version control workflows, application development
  • Experience in data engineering
