Tesla is seeking an exceptional Engineer who is motivated to change the world. In this role, you will develop and execute CAD-, bill-of-material- and change-management for incredibly innovative battery assemblies for all Tesla products. You will serve as a fount of knowledge for Battery design, function, best practices, and systematic operation. You will creatively use a comprehensive knowledge of product structure and system architecture to develop, design and build variants of parts and HV battery assemblies for R&D prototypes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage top-level CAD and bills-of-material of complex, configured HV battery assemblies
  • Create and maintain 3D and 2D documentation for parts and assemblies
  • Execute change management on top-level assemblies
  • Report part attributes, including mass and material, both digitally and empirically
  • Lead virtual build and digital mock-up activities
  • Recognize integration conflicts and drive resolution with the responsible engineers
  • Support programs throughout their entire life cycle, including: concept, design, prototype build, test, production and service
  • Maintain CAD/Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) best practices and serve as a CAD resource to the team
  • Represent Battery Engineering in engineering software rollouts and business process development

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline 
  • Passion for clean energy and energy efficiency
  • 2+ years working extensively with CAD and PLM software
  • Demonstrable design, packaging and 3D modeling skills – CATIA preferred
  • Experience in manipulating large CAD assemblies
  • Familiarity with PLM process and tools
  • Familiarity with GD&T and/or FT&A
  • Hands-on experience building physical assemblies, low- or high-volume
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Great people skills and the ability to work across organizations to elicit requirements and solve problems
  • One-on-one tutoring or group training experience preferred
