The Role
Tesla is
looking for a highly motivated Controls Engineer to Design, Specify, Integrate
and Automate Manufacturing Equipment and Processes for our cutting edge High
Pressure Die Castings. The Automation Controls Engineer is part of a team that
designs, programs, and commissions the most advanced automated assembly lines
in the world, challenging the frontiers of traditional manufacturing, creating
complex automation equipment to produce Tesla vehicles cast components. The
Automation Controls Engineer works with a team of talented engineers to develop
Tesla’s innovative controls program architecture. She/ He is expected
contribute to the team’s mission in a rapid and exponentially growing capacity.
Responsibilities:
- Program ladder logic
and structured text on multiple PLC controller platforms (Allen-Bradley,
Siemens and Beckhoff) - Sequence complex,
multi-station machinery for material pick-and-place, melting, heating, cooling,
forming, injecting, cutting, deburring applications - Interface process and
test equipment with Tesla MES and production quality databases using Python
scripting and SQL - Create aesthetically
pleasing and intuitive operator human machine interfaces (Ignition) - Design industrial
electrical panels, field wiring, network and OSHA-compliant machine safety
circuits in AutoCAD Electrical - Program and teach
industrial 6-axis robots (Fanuc, Kuka) - Setup and tune field
instruments like flowmeters, temperature transmitters, pressure transmitters, valves,
sensors and IO-Link devices. - Setup and tune servo
drives and VFDs for fast and smooth operation (Siemens)
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s
degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science
or equivalent industry experience - Superb
computer skills and demonstrated proficiency in a common programming language - Demonstrated
propensity to build, assemble, and fix things (including programmed solutions) - Familiar
with and able to use common hand tools and diagnostic tools such as multimeters - Exposure to
microcontrollers programming, binary and digital logic, analog circuits - Experience in
manufacturing environment, preferably Casting or Foundry - Experience in
hydraulic and pneumatic circuits design and troubleshooting. - Experience in
fieldbus systems like Profinet, TCP/IP, Modbus. - Advanced knowledge of requirements by ISO and local
safety Standards. - Kuka, Fanuc or/and ABB Robotic hardware skills
desired, any programming experiences are plus. - Proficiency with CAD
- Exemplary
verbal and written communication skills - Able to
work under intense time pressure in the presence of others - Willing to
work days, afternoons, nights and weekends as determined by project needs - Commitment
to Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy - Fluent in
the English or German language
