This position will be based at our R&D centres in the UK, Coventry & Nuneaton.


What you’ll do
You will be part of the Polestar electric drive unit electromagnetic design & CAE team, within our Propulsion department. This team is responsible for electromagnetic design of the electrical machine and thermal/mechanical/NVH analysis of the complete drive unit including inverter, electrical machine and transmission.

Your responsibilities will be:

  • Electromagnetic design of electrical machine
  • Research on new technologies and trends in electrical machines
  • Run advanced electromagnetic simulations
  • Design and simulation tool development
  • Postprocessing of test results on electric drive unit with focus on electrical machine
  • Create electrical machine models for vehicle simulations

You are collaborative, enthusiastic, analytical, well-organized and driven. You’re not afraid to try new approaches and out of the box methods. You have a holistic view, including vision, business, and customers. You are an experienced engineer, having a strategic mindset and the ability to engage people in your technical deliverables. You have excellent problem solving skills, communication skills and is motivated by challenges, enjoys working in a team and cooperate with others to reach common goals. You are energised by working in a creative start-up environment, taking action where you see potential and creating structure where needed.

To be successful in this role we believe you have:

  • Master or PhD in electrical engineering with focus on electrical machines
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in electrical machine design
  • Experience in electromagnetic simulation tools e.g. JMAG, Maxwell and Motor CAD
  • Experience in the automotive industry

The following are considered meritorious:

  • Experience in thermal modelling of electrical machines
  • Experience in NVH aspects of electrical machines
  • Experience in mechanical simulation of electrical machine
  • Experience in electrical machine insulation design
  • Good understanding of electrical machine control
  • Strong Matlab or Python programming skills
