Senior Technician – Parts

The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.

Mercedes Benz Research & Development North America (MBRDNA) is looking for a strong, passionate and enthusiastic Senior Technician – Parts to ensure the successful operation of and to support the workshop needs. The Senior Technician will cover logistics, parts ordering, purchasing, finance, inventory control, hazmat safety and technical support. In addition, the candidate will support all MBRDNA entities who are not able to fulfill these tasks independently and operate as deputy to the Workshop Manager and the Workshop Coordinator as needed.


Job Responsibilities:


  • The person should perform following tasks independently with little or no supervision.
  • Parts Ordering: Responsible for determining correct parts for ordering. Provide this service to all of our MBRDNA sites, including our service providers.
  • Inventory: Manage our inventory of parts, tires, supplies and reorder as necessary. This includes managing expiration dates per ISO requirements through our inventory software. Responsible for semiannual inventory control audit.
  • Logistics: Manage Shipping/Receiving area, not just in LA, but for any offsite logistic needs that may come up, including service provider or vendor needs to arrange shipment of items to anywhere else.
  • Dangerous Goods: Certified to ship/receive/store Dangerous Goods items in accordance to IATA/CFR49 standards. Contributes to the development of Dangerous Goods/Hazmat programs at MBRDNA with SHE.
  • Finance: Annual Budget planning for vendors and payment authorizations. This includes PO requests. Assure all purchases are being coded and charged to the correct programs.
  • Buyer: Purchases made for workshop operation. Responsible for finding qualified vendors, if not already established, and Purchase Order creation/closure.
  • Technical Support: Answering service provider’s technical support requests on diagnostic issues or required documents for repairs as needed for offsite Test and Prototype vehicles.
  • Designated Equipment Manager: Responsible for calibration and record keeping of calibrated tools owned by the Workshop per ISO requirements.
  • Designee and support in the absence of Workshop Parts Coordinator as backup. with other vehicle related tasks as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications:


  • Minimum level of education required and required field of study: GED or High School Diploma, Automotive Mechanic Associated Degree in Finance, Logistic or Automotive
  • Excellent knowledge and proven expertise in at least four of the following fields:
  • Microsoft office tools
  • Mercedes-Benz parts ordering system
  • Mercedes-Benz Workshop Information System WIS
  • Organizing and planning skills
  • Hazmat material certification IATA/CFR49
  • Understanding diagnostic and repair documentation
  • SAP
  • Other licenses or certifications required: Valid CA driver’s license with clean record.

    Preferred Qualifications:


  • Previous experience with Mercedes- Benz vehicles
