The Sr. Engineer – ADAS Systems will be part of the Advance Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) team, integrating active safety functions in Karma vehicles.

This individual shall work closely with Infotainment, Body, Chassis, and Powertrain teams to understand vehicle dynamics, braking, accelerating, steering behavior, and limitations with the purpose to improve the overall systems performance and target settings for the features. They will be responsible for translating these findings into sensor logic so that ADAS functionality can be designed and configured to provide best possible performance and the right drive feel in different Powertrain modes. This position will also be responsible for studying, testing, and analyzing specific behaviors of the vehicle, present test result data, and help improve the requirements to the suppliers.

Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

  • Derive subsystem requirements for Highway Pilot, Traffic Jam Piot, Valet-Parking features, and safety requirements based on features and use-cases (ODD) and the performance expectations needed to meet functionality objectives.
  • Identify component integration issues and drive them to resolution by working with cross functional teams.
  • Support vehicle instrumentation to setup to record CAN data and post-process and analyze to resolve bugs and make performance improvements.
  • Track and manage development dates and milestones with respect to testing activities for each ADAS feature using JIRA.
  • Test and verify requirements for each new Software release from ADAS, Powertrain, and Chassis modules to identify regression bugs or performance deterioration after integration using HIL, Bench, Lab Car, and test vehicles.
  • Work with ADAS, Chassis, Infotainment, and Powertrain Development teams to plan and execute ADAS + Powertrain + Chassis integration events and collaborate on test trips for overall system performance.
  • Validate actuator interface implementation with vehicle dynamics/braking/steering/powertrain system and their limitations and work to improve each aspect of performance.
  • Provide inputs to Karma EE architecture, e.g. Network Architecture, Electrical Interface, DTs, CAN Interface requirements, Fail Safe/Fail Operational requirements).
  • Work with 3rd party testing service providers and with Karma’s internal Certification team to ensure that the overall functional performance of the integrated ADAS + Chassis + Powertrain system meets NHTSA/NCAP requirements as laid out by their respective testing procedure guidelines.
  • Support the assembly plant with activities such as calibrating the modules, diagnostics, root cause analysis, and EOL testing processes. Identify anomalies and potential improvements.
  • Document and present overall improvements, progress, as well as major hurdles from a system integration perspective to Management Stake holders.
  • Plan management evaluation drives from a system integration perspective and compile data from feedback received.
  • Assist with setting architectural design direction to enable scalability and optimization of platform.
  • Work with Electrical Architecture Team to resolve any communication network issues.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering with good Mechanical understanding, OR B.S degree in Mechanical engineering with strong electrical/software understanding.
  • Experience developing robust embedded software, simulation, testing SIL, and HIL.
  • Experience with model-based development and the overall Vehicle Engineering Development Process (V-Model).
  • Strong understanding of HW/SW dependencies.
  • Experience developing/testing/validating safety functions interfacing with brakes and steering systems.
  • 4+ years of relevant industry experience (ideally with Automotive OEM or Automotive Tier 1).
  • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.
