About the role:

We're looking for an Architectural Design Manager to join our Cruise Real Estate & Workplace Team focused on maintaining design standards and preparing initial site and space plan designs across our  project portfolio. This role works closely with our Business Units, Real Estate and Transaction Management team, Facilities & Workplace Operations and 3rd party project management partners, general contractors, architects and engineers. The role will be an equal balance of strategic and tactical as we lay the groundwork to commercialize autonomous vehicle technology in emerging markets. This role will report to the Director of Project Delivery.  The Architectural Design Manager will manage pre-design efforts for a variety of asset types with a primary focus on fleet sites and service centers to support the growing fleet, R&D, and commercialization. In this role you will partner closely with Real Estate and the Entitlement Project Delivery Manager, on site development, due diligence, and zoning related jurisdictional approvals. You will prepare conceptual site plans and test-fits for sites and facilities that are being evaluated for use.  A secondary function for this role will be to further develop and maintain archetype standards for all project types.  The Architectural Design Manager is expected to thrive in an extremely fast paced environment with a high degree of ambiguity.
 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Closely collaborate with Cruise real estate, commercial operations, legal, government affairs, external communications, finance, and engineering groups to identify and plan project sites for use in acquisition.
  • Perform due diligence and pre-construction activities for real estate transactions.
  • Partner with Entitlement Project Delivery Manager throughout the entitlements and jurisdictional engagement process.
  • In partnership with consultants, conduct studies and prepare initial designs that contribute to establishing initial CapEx costs and schedules for sites. Provide clear, concise and data driven recommendations to aid Real Estate and Operations teams selection of site(s).
  • Coordinate with the Transaction Manager during the site search, acquisition, and due diligence stages to establish the highest and best use for site(s).
  • Complete work with a bias toward action and continuous improvement. Always searching for opportunities to template processes and establish best practices.
  • Document and maintain design guidelines and specifications.
  • Manage feedback process and updates to design standards documentation from internal user groups.
  • Establish and develop positive relationships with consultants, representing Cruise in a professional manner.

What you must have:

  • Minimum Bachelors in Architecture required or equivalent years of experience
  • 8+ years experience designing industrial site plans and performing test-fits.
  • Robust knowledge of site entitlements, due diligence, preconstruction in industrial asset types.
  • Experience managing multiple projects of varied scope and complexity
  • Ability to read and create architectural drawings, concepts & designs
  • Experience with architectural design software including but not limited to AutoCad, SketchUp, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Apps, etc.
  • Experience in a variety of delivery methods (i.e. design build, build to suits, TIs)
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to provide clear recommendations and solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal skills and experience creating business cases for funding approvals.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time!
