About the role:

The Program Manager, SMS Safety Risk Management leads the development and implementation of the SMS Safety Risk Management program. This includes crafting and maintaining documents, tools, records and procedures to achieve the implementation and management of the program, and all the interactions with all SMS components. The Program Manager brings value to the team with Safety Risk Assessment (SRA) and Event Risk Classification (ERC) management and tracking, and Risk Register maintenance and reporting. This role also supports the comprehensive SMS structure by crafting trend reports and documenting processes and templates for the overall continuous improvement and positive performance of all components of Cruise’s (SMS).

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Manage the Safety Risk Management (SRM) program framework by improving and maintaining program elements, to include hazard identification, safety risk assessment, risk prioritization and decision making protocols within SMS framework.
  • Communicate and coordinate with SMS Ambassadors and Liaisons for the improvement of protocols and execution of SRM.
  • Interface and align SMS SRM elements with other teams across Cruise.
  • Build the SRM procedures, tools and risk register in coordination with Cruise SMEs and Safety Reps to identify, track, trend and report out on safety risk across the organization.
  • Interpret data outputs from Cruise safety programs to provide strategic information for leadership decision making.
  • Provide quality control review and oversight of products resulting from SRM processes.
  • Provide expertise and assist with the development of training and communication materials for SMS.

You should apply for this role if you have the following qualifications:

  • Proven experience of 5+ years with SMS, Operational Safety, Safety Risk Management Programs and/or similar safety programs in a safety critical industry: Automotive, Nuclear, Aviation or similar
  • Experience implementing SMS and/or programs which support SMS within an operational organization
  • Experience leading sophisticated fast-paced safety critical initiatives impacting multiple teams and organizations, often with conflicting priorities and schedules
  • 5 Years of proven track record in facilitating and/or performing system analysis, risk analysis and/ or Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs)

Bonus points!

  • Experience working with Engineering or Human Factors
  • Masters in Operations, Aviation, Safety or any related field
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills; ability to collaborate with various and diverse set of groups and individuals
  • Highly organized with excellent time management and ability to excel in a collaborative and dynamic environment with a growing organization
  • Understanding of project management principles and proficiency in facilitating cross functional groups or activities
